Clean and Green | Environmental Friendly Solutions
Why not just replace your ceiling? Replacement costs would be considerably greater, when you consider the cost of tile and include disposal (land-fill) cost! Compared to replacement, recoating will be a substantial budget stretching decision!
Replacing tiles will not eliminate the problem; discolored grids and t-bars still need to be dealt with.
With recoating, metal or plastic grid is renewed. Your vents, speakers and other non-vital ceiling fixtures can be coated for a uniform appearance.
Facts about Acoustical Ceilings
- Acoustical ceilings are found in virtually every building in every country.
- Acoustical ceilings become extremely soiled from cigarette smoke, grease and air pollution.
- Painting ruins acoustical ceilings by damaging their acoustical value and lowering their fire rating.
- Replacing dirty acoustical ceilings is very expensive, disruptive to normal business operations and does not solve the problem of dirty grids, vents and lighting fixtures.
How Your Home or Business Environment is Improved
The following ceilings can be cleaned in your home or business:
- Acoustic - Drop ceilings installed in office buildings, hospitals, schools, restaurants, nursing homes, shopping malls, hotels, movie theaters, etc.
- Blown
- Vinyl - Drop ceilings installed in kitchen areas in restaurants, hospitals, convenience stores, hotels, employee cafeterias, etc.
- Spray Texture
- Plaster
- Painted Sheetrock
- Metal Pan
Resulting in the removal of: Atmospheric dirt, Cigarette smoke, Smoke from fire damage, Oil burner puff-back, Kitchen grease, Carbon exhaust emissions, Gas flame residue, Water stains, Food, Rust, Chemical
Providing you with: Nicer work environment, Saving on the life of your ceiling, Low cost, Restored acoustics, Restored fire-rating, No business interruption, No mess, Improved productivity, Higher standards, Impressive to customers, And is tax-deductible.
Green Benefits of Cleaning and Acoustic Tile and Ceiling Coating
- Avoids Solid Waste Disposal by Utilizing Old Ceiling Tiles
- Reduces Dependence on Artificial Light by Providing Better Light Dispersion and Encourages an Increased Utilization of Natural light
- Contributes to the Earning of LEED Credits
- Takes Advantage of a Coating with Extremely Low VOC's, avoiding the introduction of more environmental pollutants

Acoustical Ceiling Restoration Contributes to Earning LEED Green Building Credits
- The benefit of cleaning and resurfacing existing ceilings is the recycling of materials, thereby reducing the demand for "virgin materials" and dramatically reducing solid waste disposal into landfills. (MR Credit 2.1 & 2.2 - Resource Reuse Divert from Landfill & MR Credit 4.1 & 4.2 recycle/reuse)
- Ceiling Pro's Acoustical Tile & Ceiling Coating, ProCoustic, has an extremely low VOC level that is well within the range that satisfies Green Seal Standard GS-11 requirements. (EQ Credit 4.2 - Low Emitting Materials: Paints and Coatings)
- Decreases energy consumption since lower wattage bulbs can be used due to the greater light reflectance properties of ProCoustic (EA Credit 1 LEED CI 1.1 Optimize Energy Performance)
- Can increase the use of daylight EQ Credit 8.1
- Enhanced acoustical performance can qualify for Innovation and Design credits (An Innovation Credit for Acoustics can be applied for demonstrating that the acoustical performance improvements of a building clearly enhance the indoor environment in ways consistent with the preservation of human health and maximization of occupant productivity. Credits based on acoustics will be evaluated on a case by case basis.)
LEED for Schools
EQ Prerequisite 3
Intent: Provide classrooms that are quiet in which teachers can speak to the class without straining their voices and students can effectively communicate with each other and the teacher.
Minimum Acoustical Performance is required. Design classrooms and other core learning spaces to meet the Reverberation Time (RT) requirements of ANSI Standard S12.60-2002 (Annexes B-D 45 dBA). Also design classrooms and other core learning spaces to meet the Sound Transmission Class (STC) requirements of at least 35.
Ceiling Tile Manufacturer's Recycling Programs
When ceiling tiles are no longer structurally sound, there is no alternative but to replace them with new materials. In such cases they may be eligible for recycling programs provided by various ceiling tile manufacturers. Please contact the tile manufacturers for more detailed information.
ProBond
Used to refinish existing, typically unpaintable surfaces on furniture, fixtures, cabinets, laminates, metals, FRP, and even cement. It dries to a hard acrylic-like finish while also allowing the option of a full range of colors.
Many of the same environmental benefits associated with ceiling restoration, also apply to the use of ProBond.
- Reduces the demand for "virgin materials" and dramatically reducing solid waste disposal into landfills. (MR Credit 2.1 & 2.2 - Resource Reuse Divert from Landfill and MR Credit 4.1 & 4.2 recycle/reuse)
- ProBond has an extremely low VOC level that is well within the range that satisfies Green Seal Standard GS-11 requirements. (EQ Credit 4.2 - Low Emitting Materials: Paints and Coatings)
